“Reach Back Through Time” is the second collaboration between Costa Rican producer Walter Alienson and english singer Minute Taker, with the first one being “Neon Lines“.
But who is Walter Alienson? What we are told is that we are dealing with “a being too alien for Earth but too human for the open space, who, while repairing the damage to his spacecraft, had the idea of using the technology at his disposal to compose music and thereby leave a trace of his passage on Earth.“
“Reach Back Through Time,” we are told, aims to reconnect listeners with their inner “child,” allowing them to escape from a cold and calculating reality towards happier and more serene times, but does it succeed?
In my opinion, yes.
Not only is it a song composed in the classic synthpop style, but as I listened to this song, the fusion of melodies and lyrics certainly evoked a strong nostalgic emotion, sending a shiver down my spine.
Its sound carries a touch of the magic of school dances that many of us can admire in various American movies, as well as tones that remind one of the sky, stars, and enchantment.
My mind was immediately filled with images of starry skies and forests, clear nights shining almost brighter than the day, thanks to the moon and stars. It almost made me relive the sensation of the cool breeze on my face when I went camping as a child.
All sensations that are almost forgotten in the modern world.
And for all of these reasons, I’ve decided to include it in our personal playlist of the best synthpop music released in 2023, which we are gradually building and which you can access by clicking here.
This life’s not what you wantedYou’re not where you thought you’d beIt all got so damn complexYou got sucked into tired routinesYou’re feeling lowBut you know what to doThe portal is openHe’s waiting for youWhen you can’t find your sparkYou can reach back through timeTo the child you were onceWith the fire insideDreaming of stardom(you wanted)Late nights in 89(so much more)Miming til morning(you lost it)To “If I Could Turn Back Time”You’re feeling lowBut you know what to doThe portal is openHe’s waiting for youWhen you can’t find your sparkYou can reach back through timeTo the child you were onceWith the fire insideWhen you can’t find your sparkYou can reach back through timeTo the child you were onceWith the fire insideReach back through youReach back through timeReach back through time.
“Reach Back Through Time” by Walter Alienson and Minute Taker is a wonderful song: retro yet current, brimming with emotion, and magical.
There are no words to adequately describe it; it must be listened to and experienced. The only thing I can say to conclude is that I will certainly listen to it many, many times.
