Dunes -Luca's point of view
I don’t know what Bullcrane’s vision was while creating this little masterpiece, but I do know the memories, images, and sensations it stimulated in me, and that’s what I want to talk about.
As soon as I started listening to the album, I was immediately transported to the years when I had the time and desire to spend hours exploring the fantastic worlds invented for me by some creative minds within video games.
It’s all there: the lightness of the game, the mystery of exploration, the magic of extraterrestrial environments, the energy of inhabited cities.
I can’t help but imagine cities, desert landscapes, unexplored dungeons… and the music fits perfectly with it all.
Only the combat track is missing, and then it would be a complete soundtrack.
Musically, the instruments are used masterfully, creating atmospheres that are always different but vibrant with energy, sometimes almost lounge-like, and other times full of mystery.
The production is superb: there’s no frequency clash between the various sounds, and each seems to have its dedicated space, allowing them to express themselves at their best.
The composition is truly superb, with several melodies intertwining and alternating without ever losing the thread of emotion tied to the track.
Luca's Favourite Track in "Dunes"
My favorite track is “Cool Desert Night.“
It has something that makes it both relaxing and mysterious at the same time, like walking through a frontier city that captivates you with its beauty, but behind every corner, there could be something unexpected.
And indeed, the unexpected is there even musically, with almost dance-like electronic sounds suddenly appearing in an environment based on very different instruments.
It shouldn’t work, and yet it works amazingly well.
Dunes - Alex's point of view
An enchanting lounge chillout album where, from the very first track, you find yourself captivated by a relaxing and immersive atmosphere, reminiscent of warm sunset evenings spent in the company of a cocktail bar on the beach.
The carefully arranged percussion throughout the musical journey offers a contagious rhythm that invites movement without ever becoming too intrusive, keeping relaxation at the core of the experience.
Another relaxing element is how the piano is used, giving the sensation of being cradled by the ocean waves and captured by the warm colors of the sunset.
Each track of the album provides a different emotion, yet staying connected to the theme, taking the listener away from everyday thoughts and transporting them to a distant place where time seems to stand still, and happiness becomes the sole objective.
Alex's favourite track in "Dunes"
My favorite song is the first one: “Journey to Star Dune.”
I was pleasantly surprised by the melody’s structure, a mix of musical elements, including electronic sounds reminiscent of 80s video games, which completely changes in the finale, becoming relaxed and sublime, thanks to the high-pitched piano arpeggio and a low bass.
Conclusion
Dunes by Bullcrane takes us back to the video games of the 80s and 90s, creating magical and relaxing yet mysterious atmospheres that stimulate the imagination and allow us to experience breathtaking adventures in alternative worlds.
