Right now, in Italy, there’s a trend of a track called “Italo Disco,” but unfortunately, it has absolutely nothing to do with this musical genre even tho it’s advertised as such.
Feeling the desire to listen to some authentic Italo Disco, I remembered this little EP filled with memories, nostalgia, and passion by Dimi Kaye, a Greek guitarist, and producer, named “Disco 21.”
Dimi shared with everyone that when he was a child, he used to live right above a discotheque, and in the ’90s, Italo Disco was extremely popular in Greece. Driven by these memories, he dedicated himself to creating this small EP, which we are now going to explore together.
Disco 21 - Luca's Take
This production initially caught me off guard: I was expecting faster rhythms and dancefloor beats, but instead, I found myself in front of a production that might be less “dance” but much more melodic and passionate, while still maintaining a high level of energy.
It truly brings to mind scenes from old movies, such as Beverly Hills Cop, and skillfully blends the Italo Disco genre with classic Synthwave and Retrowave elements.
The only down point is that this is just an EP and not a full album because, yes, I would have loved to listen to many more tracks!
