Cat Temper – Mystic Kitten

Best Indie Music Cover Cat Temper Mystic Kitten

It’s hard, if not impossible, not to love Cat Temper with his feline face and his retro electronic music permeated with “cat” references in every title and melody.

We’ve already talked about him reviewing Furio, but today we’re talking about his 2023 album, “Mystic Kitten”.

Luca's Take

I have always been a big fan of Cat Temper, both from a musical side and for the idea itself of a project that, while maintaining extremely high quality standards from a musical point of view, manages to be extremely ironic and to maintain a permanently positive atmosphere around it.

It’s hard not to smile when you read the title of a track, look at the cover, and after a while, even just see a new track and this new album being released. “Mystic Kitten” certainly doesn’t disappoint either on the musical side or on the more “ironic” side of the presentation.

A perfect production that enhances the melodies to the fullest, which, in their simplicity, perfectly achieve the goal of creating a mystical and mysterious experience (“Mystic” for that matter).

Mixing close to perfection by Von Hertzog, certainly not an unknown name within the “synth retro” world when it comes to mixing and mastering engineers.

Luca's Favourite Track

My favorite track on the album is “House of Fur“.

This track is full of sounds that I personally love, from the bass that is both pulsing and catchy, to the filtered pads that move through the space, to the more delicate melodic sounds that tie it all together, creating an experience that I would almost call “sweet” even though it is also full of energy.

A track to listen to over and over again.

Alex's Take

Cat Temper… the perfect example of the saying: “a name is a guarantee”.

Mystic Kitten, manages to make me remember how I felt when I was a child and I was alone for hours playing on the old consoles, or when I secretly watched old horror movies.

The tracks seem to develop like levels in a video game, involving and enchanting thanks to the nostalgic melodies, arrangements and particular electronic sounds of the 80s, which conquer the minds of those who are passionate about retro games.

Alex0s Favourite Track

My favorite track is HOUSE OF FUR, which starts off a bit spooky, like entering a haunted house, but then changes, becoming mysterious and nostalgic with a sometimes upbeat rhythm, which prepares for action and makes listening pleasantly hypnotic and tension-free.
